The California Migration Museum project was established in Fall 2020, spinning out from broader work by Katy Long on how to shape narratives around immigration history. This project intends to establish a California Museum of Immigration in San Francisco which — through its core exhibit and program of events — will deepen understanding of how California was and continues to be fundamentally shaped by immigration, and broaden public appreciation for how this history illuminates debates about the future of immigration in California and the United States.
By building connections between visitors and these local histories of immigration, the Museum will help to strengthen a shared sense of community and increase empathetic understanding of contemporary immigration.
